INSIGHTS

Personal experiences which have provoked thought - and created or reinforced particular insights about our lives in God's world.
One of our church-members, who happens to be a lover of butterflies, was suddenly struck by a parallel between the transition from caterpillar to butterfly and the ultimate miracle in the life and ministry of Jesus Christ.
Butterfly As some of you know I love butterflies, and so, a few years back I joined the Butterfly Conservation Society. You too can join and enjoy the first year's membership free. An easy way to start your own butterfly garden is to plant a buddleia bush as I did and take part in the National Garden Butterfly Survey. Last year I recorded 12 species from April to November. Other good news is, if you have nettles in your garden they are caterpillar's food so you don't need to remove them.

On a cold blustery day (8th January) I entered the Ladies at Lady Heyes Craft Centre, and there on the floor was a small tortoiseshell. So with the ever-present camera I took a photo. When I showed them the photo at one of our Tuesday evening Prayer and Praise Services, someone remarked that it looked like it was on a cross. This was the mortar in between the tiles. As butterflies are a sign of new life (to caterpillars it is the end), I thought how relevant it was to Jesus dying on the cross and being raised to the new life, which is available to us if we accept Him as our Saviour.
