I started work at The 'Welcome' Christian Drop-in Centre on Knutsford's Longridge Estate, in June, 2005, as the kitchen supervisor.
As a non-Christian I told all concerned that I was a non-believer, and a set of coincidences had brought me to that job! How wrong could I be?
After asking The Welcome's manager, Debbie, "What happens when we die?", my journey began. The Welcome had put me on this path that I find myself on.
I was invited to a Healing Service at Knutsford Methodist Church and, slowly, all my thoughts about coincidences & God changed. I, Julie King, felt the Holy Spirit - I was dumb struck! It was unquestionably an amazing, if slightly scary, feeling. Yearning to find out more, I did an 'Essence' course, with a group of lovely people at The Welcome, and I then took another step forward by following 'Come as You Are' worship study.
These meetings and the people at The Welcome are invaluable to me. I love being able to think about the Bible, God & Jesus. It was strange at first having to really think about it, but confidence in my belief & faith is growing since those first tentative steps.
I feel that, through my relationship with God, I now realise that the reason I'm here is quite simple - God wanted me here.
I will tell you one of the reasons why I KNOW that He is moving me:
- Whilst praying one night I got a vision of houses passing me, like I was on a train journey. I was listening and watching as much as I could. After talking to someone, I think that God was telling me to help others by telling them of my journey - that's why I'm writing this!
I've loved my job from the start. There's a peace about The Welcome that I've never known anywhere before - and I've realised that the place is filled with the Holy Spirit, and that I was brought here by God's will. I now know that it was 'God-incidences' guiding me here, and I can't wait for the rest to happen.
Ordinary people can come into The Welcome for a chat, a drink and something to eat. If, like me, they would like to search deeper and find faith at their own pace with no pressure, a smile and a friendly, brilliant attitude, then they can, and I know that....
