The Grassfield Way House Group meets on every Thursday during
term-time from 1.15pm to 3.00pm. It was established in the
early 1980s and currently has a dozen or so members.
The origins of this group actually go back even earlier, when women from St John's Anglican church invited women from Knutsford's Methodist Church (KMC) to join them for Bible study. The group evolved from this, meeting in various members' houses and has been held at Grassfield Way for some years now. The members are all women but this is probably due to husbands traditionally being at work. |
Currently the membership represents every decade from 20s to
90s and we very much value all the individual
life-experiences. The wide age-range often produces
interesting debate and exchange of views.
We start with tea (and not infrequently some of Judy's scrumptious cakes) and exchange news and recall anyone known to be in need of prayer. At the present time the leadership is shared - members taking turns in leading the Bible Study. Everyone is encouraged to share in discussion and to consider the practical application of God's |
|
word in our lives and the relevance of the Bible today.
Our aim is to grow spiritually in the knowledge and love of God, Father, Son and Holy Spirit, and to become more effective witnesses in our daily lives through our actions and words. We are very supportive of each other and we share our joys and concerns. Prayers are said for persons or causes raised by members each week and a confidential telephone Prayer Chain has been operating for some years now. This can be activated by any member and is a source of great support when members receive bad |
news to know that the group is united in prayer at any time.
We break off during school holidays, and at the end of each "term" we invite friends, neighbours or relatives who we think would enjoy the fellowship of such an afternoon when members bring a poem, favourite Bible reading or a piece of music. We welcome you to "give us a try" without obligation if you think you might like to spend Thursday afternoons in this way. If transport is a problem we may be able to help. |
