I drifted away from God. But God, of course, did not drift away from me."
I was born, 26 years ago, into a Christian family and so right from being born attended Droitwich Methodist Church where I was Christened. I have very happy memories of Sunday school where I made many friends and learnt about Jesus in a fun and caring environment. When, aged 6, we moved to Knutsford, I then became a 'regular' at KMC Junior Church.
As a teenager I became more involved in the church. Saturday evenings were spent at the KMC Youth Group and Sunday evenings at 'Eureka'. Highlights of those years were a weekend at 'Fort Rocky', trips to the dry-ski slopes, a weekend in London at 'MAYC' and becoming involved in the mission back in 1992. In my early teenage years I asked Jesus to come into my life at a concert led by 'Mimic' at Knutsford High School. I suppose I was already a Christian really, but I found this a significant step in my Christian faith. At the age of 17 I was made a member of KMC before going off to University in Liverpool to study for a nursing degree.
For much of my time as a student in Liverpool I felt distant from God. I was having a great time meeting new friends and enjoying the freedom and excitement of 'Uni' life. I did go to the Methodist church in Liverpool a few times, which was very welcoming, and I went along to the Christian Union but was put off by students 'speaking in tongues' and the charismatic way they worshipped. The friends I lived and socialised with were not Christians and I found my faith becoming less important to me at this time and I drifted away from God.
God of course did not drift away from me or let me down, and faithfully He was there when I came back to Him. I attended an 'Alpha' course, in my 4th year at 'Uni', with a group of nurses on my course, and this helped me to re-examine my life and it deepened my faith once more. It was shortly after finishing this 'Alpha' course that God brought Will and I together, and a year last August he became my husband. We both very much feel that, after growing up together in the same church for many years, but not knowing each other very well, that this was God's plan for our lives.
At times it is easy to go off on our own little path, but God brings us back and reminds us that His path is the one we should follow to receive eternal happiness. Together Will and I attended another 'Alpha' course, which strengthened our relationship with God and each other. We very much value our Christian marriage and through our marriage, our house group, worship at KMC, the love of the church family and the example set by our Christian families, we are growing in our faith and endeavouring to put God at the centre of our lives.
